The Joint Pact... A proud group of nations, with a proud history, great planning and great strength! All of these were excellent! The only thing that they needed now were great personalities! Ugh, why do Joint Pact meetings resemble funerals... At least with world meetings each nation had the option to do what they wanted, just make sure you weren't caught by Germany or Switzerland, that could be done because there were many nations and not just a few like in the Joint Pact. The meeting in Moscow about the Japan situation was so off putting she seriously wanted to reconsider ever going to a meeting again! But then again she didn't want to be left out of major decisions either.
Unfortunately she had lost Venezuela somewhere so it seemed like it was going to be just her looking around Moscow for today. Even though she thought was Russia was a bit creepy she did admire his capital, the Kremlin just looked magnificent! She wished she could make great buildings like that too! She just had to get over her... eh... financial troubles. She bought some Pirozhki from a shop although she didn't know what it was, it looked delicious and Russian, seeing she was in Russia she may as well try some of these. Luckily they had a break from the meeting at lunch time, she felt like she was going to starve!
Taking off her black beret which had become a part of the stylish uniforms her bosses had ordered to make Bolivia look like a world power, she sat at a table in a park and began eating. It sure was tasty however it never beat food from home... taking a swig of coke she continued eating, not aware that a nation was nearby...

Sigh. That had been one of the worst meetings Todor had ever attended, and he had sat through EU meetings in times of crisis. He could safely say that the Joint Pact meeting had been worse. The tension in the large room had been so thick he could have choked on it, the nations watching each other like hawks, suspicion painted on their faces like a big warning sign cautioning against petting the dog. Worst of all: it wasn't over yet. They were just taking a lunch break.
Todor found himself wondering what Allegiance meetings were like. He could imagine Ludwig leading the discussion like he often did during world meetings, and Alfred chiming in from time to time to remind everyone that he was important. Arthur and Francis would disagree with each other on principle, and the others would probably just sit there, waiting for the meeting to be over. Their meetings were probably a crazy affair, full of life and angry shouting.
It sounded a hundred times better than the loaded silence that fell over the meeting room each time one of the members of the Joint Pact had said their piece, heavy and deafening until the next person piped up. Nobody raised their voice or slammed their fist on the table. Nobody dared to.
Where the Allegiance was a tornado, the Joint Pact was a dormant volcano. Todor feared an eruption.
He sighed and commenced his walk down the busy streets of Moscow, contemplating where to eat. He hadn't seen some of his allies in a while and would have thought it nice to eat lunch together, but had decided against it, leaving the room the minute the meeting recessed for lunch. "Hmmm, solyanka, maybe? Pelmeni?" he said to himself as he walked, thinking when in Russia, you have to eat Russian food. "Oh! Shashlyk!" he exclaimed happily, having made his decision. There was a shop that sold it further down the street.
Ten minutes later, Todor was strolling through the city munching on the delicious meat when he felt it: the presence of a nation. He could not tell who it was, but he knew it was a member of the Joint Pact. No other nations had a reason to be in Moscow right now. His curiosity moved his feet forward, to the park where he found Adela Ferrovaria. "Adela!" he greeted with a smile, seating himself next to her. "I'm so glad it's you and not one of the sourpusses we have allied ourselves with." Todor chuckled, jokingly adding, "What were we thinking, right?" The Joint Pact was a group of pessimists who trusted nobody, but Todor knew he could rely on them. Well, some of them. If it weren't for Ivan, Bulgaria wouldn't even be an independent country, but he wasn't sure he could trust some of the other members. He needed to be on his guard.

Adela had been deep in though about whether it was possible to really put a ship in a bottle until she sensed the presence of a nation. Could the United Allegiance have sent spies? Wait no that's stupid, even they questioned the point of that. Was it one of her so called allies? Most likely not, they would have just ignored her, or maybe it was the Boss Man? She had lost Venezuela after all. To her surprise it was the last nation she even suspected.
"Oh signor Todor! What a pleasant surprise! I didn't expect you to come and speak to me for lunch!" Truthfully she hadn't expected Bulgaria, she did know facts about each of her allies histories but not the actual people. To her it seemed that Bulgaria and Venezuela were the only Joint Pact members to have souls present in their bodies, the rest seemed cold or just plain scared of one another, however she felt as if Vincente was getting tense each passing day on the front. Todor seemed like someone she could get along with, she'd seen his GDP when it was said that he was one of the poorest nations in Europe... He was still about 20 billion dollars richer than her though... It sucked being the poorest nation in the Joint Pact!!! Well she was richer than North Korea at least, but China could soon be handing him money so...
"Sourpusses? That is a very accurate description of our so called friends." She laughed, the United Allegiance she had heard were much more jolly... Well at least it's more, ehem, irresponsible nations were, but they could trust one another. Unlike what she and Todor were stuck with. In her opinion, the only fact they were all allies, saved all the members from a gunfight.
"What were we thinking? I don't know, this war has ruined my economy, I have a constant headache as well because of it. I guess it was the lure for land. Why did you join signor?" She said while taking a bite out of her food, while downing it with some Coca Cola.

Todor smiled at the younger nation, friendly and welcoming, green eyes crinkling at the corners. "I'd rather have lunch with you than with any of our allies. They're no fun." Sourpusses he'd called them, which Adela had agreed with. "They're so tense and suspicious all the time, like they're expecting to be double-crossed."
The Joint Pact had trust issues a mile wide, and until they overcame them, working together would be a big challenge. The meeting they had just come from was a reminder of how delicate the pact was, a thin thread that could snap any minute. The situation was complicated further by Yao's surreptitious behavior and Ivan's enigmatic personality. They Joint Pact was already at war with the Allegiance. The last thing they needed was a fight among themselves. Todor was worried, the concern he was feeling showing in the creasing of his forehead and in the gentle furrowing of his eyebrows.
He generally disliked conflict, and for that reason, he had chosen to join the war. A contradictory action to some, but made perfect sense to him. His reasons for joining weren't as obvious to Adela. "My geographical location," he responded simply, taking a bite of his food and watching her reaction. "War would have come to my doorstep whether I acted or not. I chose a side so that I would be better protected." He had tried to be neutral in previous wars, but that had not worked out for him. This time he had chosen a side before the choice was taken out of his hands. He just hoped he had picked the winning side.
"Do you thing we can win?" he asked, biting his bottom lip a little nervously. He knew that expressing doubt was unwise in a Pact consisting of temperamental people that didn't take very well to criticism, but Adela seemed genuine. She was a bit like him, the odd man out in a group of pessimists. He felt like he could trust her.

Todor seemed like a fun guy to be around, he just acted that little bit more... Human. No one except Vincente ever wanted to have lunch with her before, so she was silently happy when Todor told her this, it made her feel less of an outsider than she already was at this point. She felt powerless within the alliance, it was almost saddening, her words didn't seem to matter all to much in the meeting as she was too old, powerful or experienced, she was probably only seen as a burden with the recent Bolivian military fiascos.
She was surprised when Todor gave his reasons for joining the conflict. Adela thought that all the members came for huge political reasons, land grabbing or just felt like it, she didn't think that he would join because of that reason. Then again it was wise of Todor to join the war for that cause of defending one's land. "Ah that makes sense. Seems like you're not selfish like me!" She laughed.
To be honest, the only reason Bolivia joined the war was for a land grab at territory to stop being landlocked, she hated not seeing the sea and wished that she could at least be happy on a beach for once. However it seemed that Adela's ambitions were stronger than her military capabilities, perhaps that was what she deserved for being so greedy?
When he asked if she thought they would win, Adela found herself in an awkward situation... From her point of view certainly not. With most of the Joint Pact being comprised of, lets face it minor nations, with the exception of Russia and China she doubted that they could win. They were all in a tough situation here and whether they could win or not would have to be determined in Europe. If the Joint Pact could successfully take out the major United Allegiance nations of Germany, France, Italy and Britain in Europe then the United Allegiance would certainly ask for a truce. Right?
She pursed her lip, "I honestly don't know, amigo. The enemy have so many strong countries on their side. The US, UK, France, Germany, Italy, India, Japan, Brazil... I... I don't know. If Venezuela doesn't help me with any military matters I'll collapse, I don't know what it is like for you guys in Europe though."

do not forget me
About thirty years ago, Israel's boss was assasinated. By who, well, no one knows, but Israel immediately blamed Iran. Of course, that alone wouldn't have started World War III, even though Israel and Iran's various allies declared war in quick succession.
Nah, the nuclear bomb in the middle of Jerusalem probably did it.
Now? Now the rest is history. The world's been at war for thirty years, thirty years of bloodshed and pain. No one else has reached for the nuclear option quite yet, but no one's happy. So if we all die- well, do not forget me, okay?
