Ivan walked out of an intelligence briefing in a rather irritable mood. Each new piece of information crawled on his skin like an unexpected hidden spider. Ivan recognized his own bouts of paranoia, but fact could not be denied.
In the past decade there had been a large influx of Chinese immigrants. He welcomed immigrations as long as immigrants properly abided by Russian culture and assimilated themselves into the community. Mother Russia welcomed all. However, the immigrants in question do not have employment or a residence even after their many years in the country. He suspected these immigrants to be part of China’s magical disappearing army. He could not express his frustration of this incident with words. His violet eyes had turned a sharp glare to his intelligence officers, and he had quickly left the room. He was angry with China for betraying him in such a matter, angry with his own people for allowing them to slip through their high immigration standards, and angry with himself for being so foolish once again. China was his best friend, but a selfish best friend indeed.
A plane took him quickly to China and he stormed into his home unannounced. The sliding door cracking at it hit the doorframe. Servants around him protested in Chinese, and Ivan held a deaf ear to their words. He came outside to his meditation area and went straight towards the older nation. He grabbed him by the arm and yanked him off the ground. “China, I have found what you have lost,” he said with an unstable smile.

Deep breaths. In this time China could feel at such peace with himself and the world around him. Panda was moving around in front of him but his mind was so far from Panda taking a drink from the small stream that ran across the courtyard. It was man made of course, but there was nothing wrong with that. It added to the peaceful atmosphere of his home. He wouldn’t have traded this peace for anything, but just as he took another deep breath he felt his peaceful world collapsing.
His head had barely flipped around as the shouting began before his arm was jerked and he felt himself lifted from the ground. His eyes shot from where the shouts had come from to the face in front of him…..Ivan
Ivan, with a message for him. He had found what he’d lost. The reality of the message was China hadn’t lost anything, he’d known exactly where everything is, he’s not in the habit of misplacing things that are important to him. With a quick jerk he tried to take his arm back, finding it awkward to be sideways and only half way on the ground. His servants were still scrambling around. Some had dove to shelter and others ran about just not knowing what to do about the very intimidating Russian being here.
His heart was pounding. What had Ivan found? What has he found? It was too early for that, he couldn’t let this happen. But China was smart, he wasn’t going to defend himself before he knew what Russia was talking about. Russia would have to explain himself to get answers and explanations. He couldn’t panic, he needed to stay focused.
“ Russia!” He snapped to show him he was extremely serious. The kindness he’d offer in his voice was nonexistent considering Ivan offered him such rudeness by bursting into his home like this. He struggled to stand and tried to jerk his arm away again. “ I don’t know what you’re talking about!” He hissed and snapped his teeth up to him, not that it did much. The distance to his face was quite large due to his height. “I don’t lose anything. Now put me down! Never have you been so rude to a friend!” He continued to spit venom, getting even more upset. As he struggled in his grip he began to curse in Chinese.

Centuries of friendship allowed you to truly understand another. Ivan once idolized Yao. His strength and elegance left his younger self in awe. He remembered hiding behind Mongolia and looking up at Yao with big wide fascinated violet eyes, wondering how such a pretty nation could exist. He wanted him all to himself. He learned many lessons from the older nation, and took his advice as sacred wisdom. It only took time until the student would surpass the teacher, and it all boiled into the Sino-Soviet split. Yao could not accept that he had grown to be his better. He could not accept that Ivan knew what was best for both of them. He still looked at him like the small child he had first met. It frustrated him because Yao held secrets from him out of a false sense of protection. Russia did not need China’s protection. He needed his honesty.
His grip tightened as he tried to jerk away from him. Yao thought him a fool, a child he could manipulate with the promise of candy, but Ivan knew Yao. He knew his motives and strategies. He may lie as he liked, but Ivan read through each lie. He dragged his body up, bringing their faces close and glaring into them. “Your little army you have somehow misplaced in my country. Did you think I would not notice, friend?” he stressed the word, as if doubting its very meaning.
He thought them friends, and yet Yao constant betrayal and lies only brought doubt to his mind. If he kept his back turned to the nation to his south, he would one day find a knife thrust between his shoulder blades. “I never wished to fight you, but if you bring war upon me, I will return it,” he growled, his childish natures disappearing to a nation under threat.

Yao swiped at Russia and fought him as he held him in such a rude way. His heart was in his throat and it was pounding, regardless of the way he was acting. It was far too soon for Russia to have any concept of what was going on, and then he said it….
He stilled when Ivan finally jerked him close and Yao took a deep breath to steady himself. It happened. It may have been too early but eventually he was planning on this happened. It wasn’t anything that was beyond repair yet, he could fix this. If Ivan would just calm down and listen to him, he could fix this. Yao was a careful planner and had already thought of several things he could say to get out of it or at least manage to talk his way into his good graces for the moment. Still, he didn’t think he should owe his FRIEND any explanation at all. Especially dangling in front of him like this!
Yao’s eyes were defiant and cast away from Ivan’s, even with their proximity being so close. He wouldn’t look at him because not only would it be rude on top of what he was already doing but he had nothing to say to him that directly anyway. “War? You talk of war with ME?” He grabbed Ivan’s hand and tried to pry his fingers off of him. He would not be treated this way any longer! Ivan had lost his mind. Even if he was right that something was strange going on there, he was absolutely out of line with his way of thinking. How dare he accuse a friend of wanting to start a war with him! Yao wanted to save him! He was going to show him, one day it was all going to make sense and Ivan would be thanking him for everything that he’d done.
“ How dare you accuse me of anything!” Yao bit at him harshly and this time tried to kick him. Ivan was completely out of line with just who he was talking to. “This war has made you paranoid! ” He shouted again before this time changing his tone. If he was going to be smart about this he was going to have to pander to what was difficult for Russia to fight against. Someone could always retaliate with shouting and snapping, which China could continue to do plenty of. It would be odd for him as such a close friend to not act that way in some fashion. But now it was time for him to be hurt. His eyes swelled naturally with tears and he kept his eyes cast to the ground. “ You…are so paranoid you don’t even want my people anymore.. My people whom willingly go to live in your home! You are upset with them for this? How is this my fault?” He cast the blame back on Russia.
It was completely possible that Russia had found out through a census or a check that these people were not properly checked, marked, had housing or jobs. But that wasn’t his fault either, it was illegal in his country not to have those things. If Russia had a better system, they would all have housing and jobs. “ I think your western influence is crippling your ability to see your friends!”

do not forget me
About thirty years ago, Israel's boss was assasinated. By who, well, no one knows, but Israel immediately blamed Iran. Of course, that alone wouldn't have started World War III, even though Israel and Iran's various allies declared war in quick succession.
Nah, the nuclear bomb in the middle of Jerusalem probably did it.
Now? Now the rest is history. The world's been at war for thirty years, thirty years of bloodshed and pain. No one else has reached for the nuclear option quite yet, but no one's happy. So if we all die- well, do not forget me, okay?
