Just like it says on the tin - Switzerland is very, very neutral. However, that doesn't mean the nation has no interaction with its neighbors.
Some things that could make nice plot bunnies (the bold is to make it easy to see who the potential threadmate would be) :
- Switzerland is not officially aligned with any side, which means one of the two plots could take place:
--- If invaded (which is a fairly liberal term with Switzerland's strict policies, including everything from passenger planes flying over Swiss airspace to having a neighboring nation use Swiss territory as a battleground against another nation), Switzerland would instantly fight back to repel the invaders. Switzerland vs Anyone
--- Because he has no official allegiance, Switzerland still offers humanitarian aid to (almost) any other nation. Particularly with nations having a more ravaged civilian population, this means that Basch may pay visits of goodwill abroad (not that he might necessarily look too kindly upon those foreign warmongers...). Switzerland + Anyone
- As mentioned in my Past 30 Years of History section, Switzerland has been relying heavily on imports (particularly food) from other nations as the shipment of goods across Europe becomes impaired. This would be the perfect bargaining chip who wanted Switzerland's natural defenses of the Alpine terrain for their own strategic needs (should the war come to Western Europe). Switzerland + Anyone (most likely Germany, France, other bordering nations)
- Outside of the AU, Switzerland feels closest to:
--- Liechtenstein. Regards her as a younger sister. The two have shared much of their history and Basch would very likely personally go to war for her.
--- Austria. Best frienemies forever. Switzerland comes across as loathing him in the present day, but there was a time that the two were close, and Basch admittedly misses those times. He would be very torn if Austria were to be invaded on whether or not to assist (regardless of what his nation's official stance was).
--- France. The two have teamed up more than once over the course of history. Switzerland feels like he's become too involved/too indebted to cut off all ties at this point.
--- Germany. Despite their rocky relations during the last World War, Germany's kind of like a cousin. A cousin Basch feels responsible for in ensuring that he doesn't get carried away like last time.
--- Norway. He doesn't feel particularly emotionally attached, but he respects that Norway, much like himself, has always been a reserved man not to keen on running into pan-national alliances. He also knows how to handle his finances well.
- I'm not big on romantic ships with Switzerland, as I tend to see him as being too skeptical of others' motives to let down his guard that much. BUT I can always be persuaded by very good RPing.
- I'm open to anything.
