Fuck.
Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.
He lost Al somewhere in Moscow in a scuffle with some Russian cops/soldiers whatever they were. He supposed dropping out of an Alien Spacecraft might draw some attention, but hey when you just spent the entire night drinking and dancing, stuff like that just makes a ton of sense. Breaking out Germany from a Russian prison super easy, especially for two awesome people like Alfred and him. After all, Ludwig could be a bossy dick, but he was the only one who could get Gilbert out of his unbearable funk. They had to save Germany! Tonight sounded like the best night to do it! Eh…it had made more sense at the club, and now as he punched out one guard after another, as an alarm blared throughout the entire prison, and he started to sober up from the major adrenaline kick, this was starting to seem like a really awful plan.
He kept pulling open the small screens to each prison cell to see who occupied it, moving from one cell to the next, keys jingled in his hand as well as a fancy security card he got off one of the knocked out guards. He could handle guards. He could even handle a butt load of ammunition pointing in his direction, but if that asshole Russia or one of his minion nations showed up…well shit might hit the fan. He heard gunfire echo in the hall and a bullet whiz pass his face. “Nah uh, not the hair!” he snapped in Danish, as he pointed a gun he stole off another at the guards shin, shooting it. He heard the guard yelp and hit the ground like a sack of potatoes. Germany would appreciate that reference. If he had thought this through, he would actually have his weapons on him, and he wouldn’t be wearing the suit he had on at the meeting yesterday. Too late now.
He kept opening the windows. Nope. Nope. Nope. Nope. Nope. Wait!
He ran back to the last cell and opened up the window to see the familiar emotionless German he could recognize anywhere. He laughed victoriously. He quickly used the card and key to open up the cell and busted in like a Olympian on steroids. “I bet you never thought you’d see my handsome face again,” he grinned, hands on hips, chin in the air, creating a pose of awesomeness. “Your brother is a moody dick without you, so we should get you home!” he announced.

Though one might think that it would be very difficult in his present situation to do so, Ludwig is fast asleep when the alarms in the prison go off. But when they do go off he's quick to pay attention. It's not exactly normal for the alarms to go off in a prison - at least not one that's reasonably well-run - and he knows that they could very well have something to do with him. While he knows that his brother would be more interested in Ivan's blood than actually rescuing him, he has many other allies who would have both the desire and the ability to attempt to rescue him. Of course, it's also possible that the alarms have nothing to do with that, so they merely cause him to ready himself in case it's the former - he could need to respond quite quickly.
And then suddenly his window opens. And then it immediately closes again. Germany rolls his eyes at that, but gathers that this indeed means that he's being rescued. But by Denmark? He would have thought that it would have been... well, nevermind. A rescue is a rescue and he won't look a gift horse in the mouth.
Even before the other nation realizes his mistake and comes back, Germany starts working on the chains that bind him. Perhaps if he was at full strength he could have simply broken them, but while he's been healing well from what Russia and his sister did to him, he's not quite fully recovered yet - it takes time to heal after a pretty much total loss of blood. But even without his full strength, he's still an engineer at heart, and Russia gave his chains way too much slack. Breaking them is simply a matter of using them against eachother, using his bodyweight and what strength he does have to make them break at their literal weakest link. In other words, just a few twists and he's got a nice set of bracelets and anklets that aren't attached to the walls.
Of course, by the time he's finished Denmark has realized his mistake and opened the door. And he finds the first words out of the other nation's mouth to be vaguely insulting - of course he knew that he'd be seeing Denmark again! Anyone who thought for a moment that the man who designed the German War Machine didn't have a plan on how to escape on his own is an idiot. It's just that his plan would require for him to escape when conditions are just so and they haven't been yet - he is, after all, one nation and getting out of this place is more complicated than breaking a few chains. So to suggest that he was sitting here with even the slightest worry about not being able to leave... "I've never been so lucky," he remarks dryly, feeling that jab is perfect vengeance.
Though the remark about his brother causes him to lift his eyebrows in surprise. "It's Prussia vho has been more trouble in my absence and not Italy?" he asks, "I vouldn't have thought..." But as he's well aware that time is not likely on their side, he steps past Denmark to look outside his cell and see if anyone is coming. "Vhat is the plan?" he asks, quite eager to leave now that escape is no longer a long wait away - merely having another nation of decent strength helping changes the situation dramatically, even more so because he presumes that they're prepared to get him out of here in a relatively smooth fashion.

He continued to hold his pose of greatness in front of the too stiff not always pleasant Germany. Mathias felt incredibly accomplished at the moment. Not only had he managed to get into Moscow (of course with America’s help), he had also managed to find the top secure prison and break into like a hero in an action movie. Oh Al would be proud. Ah shit…they would have find him. No matter, he had great hopes they would all make it out of Russia alive, that is if Russia or one of his crazy sisters wasn’t nearby to stop them. Then again, Russia’s sisters were hot they only had the terrible fate of being related to a monster.
“Luck has nothing to do with it! I could have broken in here with my eyes clothes and my hands tied behind my back. You can’t hold back the strength of a Viking!” he declared just as a gun shot rang in the hallway. His entire body tensed and dipped down further into the room. He used the wall for protection and peer out the door. He cursed in his native tongue, bringing his gun back out to full height to fire back.
He laughed as he fired knocking the guard to the ground, not at the lump body, but at Germany’s words. “You think I would be stupid enough to hang around Italy while you’re behind enemy front lines?” he smirked, “I’d rather leave that to France or Spain.” He pulled out another case of bullets to reload.
“Eh…plan?” he repeated. He purposefully kept his eyes down on his gun. He really hoped the German wouldn’t rail him out when he found out they didn’t have a plan. Every time he fell asleep during meetings, he usually woke up to an ear full of Germany telling him to wake up and pay attention. “Well first,” he smirked, “we should get out of here. Second, we need to find Al. Lost him somewhere in Moscow.”

Germany responds to Denmark's posturing and boasting the only way that he can - by not responding to it at all. Which is a good thing, because that means that he's not being distracted by their conversation - and being distracted could have been costly when he has to hastily withdraw back into his cell because of the guard in the hallway. Fortunately, Denmark makes quick work of that problem, though Germany is quick to note that it's a bad sign - where there's one there might be more, and if so they were right behind Denmark.
So he's quite cautious as he peers back around the corning again, seeing the guard's body. Hmm, he wants that gun - the guard clearly doesn't need it anymore. "But you're apparently stupid enough to hang around my brother vhile I'm behind enemy lines," he comments, proving that he was listening in spite of all appearances. The hallway seems devoid of life at the moment, so he quickly darks out toward the fallen guard - ready to change course the instant that he needs to if the situation changes abruptly. Once the gun is in his hand, he stays alert as he searches for... ah, there's the extra clip. Good. Well, good except for the fact that he'd much have a German gun in his hand but, though he'd never say it out loud, guns are one thing that Russia isn't entirely terrible at.
Making sure that the gun is ready to go, he turns back to Denmark and responds to the 'plan' by stating, "So in other vords, there is no plan." He really shouldn't be surprised by this - this is Denmark that he's talking to. Who apparently came here with America? Yes, so there's definitely no plan. Pausing for only a moment to consider, he says, "Okay, here is the plan: ve're going to the vall, vhere ve'll break into a guard tover. If ve take out a tover, ve can escape over the vall vithout being shot in the back. If ve are quick, they von't be able to stop us. Then ve vill find America, Ja?" It's more of a sketch of a plan than a real one, but he'll have to make do - there are too many variables that he doesn't know to get as specific as he'd like. But it's still way more specific than Denmark's. Which he will berate him for - but later. Now is not the time.

Mathias never liked being ignored. It made him want to be louder and boast more to see if the man might have not heard him. If Mathias could have his way, he would dance around in a silly little hat while making chicken noises if it meant people would give him the time of day. Call it his ego, but he loved to have in stroke at all moments of the day. Instead of making him look like a fool, he huffed in annoyance, doing a double take out into the hallway. You would think Ludwig could be at least a LITTLE appreciative that he had decided to break his ass out of jail.
His emotions did a one eighty, however, when the man finally responded to his rambling. A cocky grin spread across his face, “If your brother didn’t have me around, he would die from depression.” Besides, Gilbert, while a total ass and tool at times, was one of his best friends. He could rely on the man for anything, and for that, it only made sense, that when Gilbert needed him he would be by his side in return. Oh, he was going to get a hell ton of brownie points for saving his stick in the mud brother.
Speaking of stick in the mud, he was somewhat surprised when Ludwig didn’t immediately scold him for the lack of strategy. The German bolted into the hallway, and he followed him with ease, keeping his gun up and switching his aim from one side to the other side of the hallway to knock out any Russian’s that might come around the corner.
Oh…there it was.
“Hey my plan got you out of that cell,” he reminded him, but he let the argument die. He form turned serious as he took in Ludwig’s plan. It had a lot more depth to it than his. He had just considered running on out, guns blazing like he did when he came into the place. He gave him a curt nod in agreement. “Ja, let’s go,” he stated seriously. He could feel the crawling of a hangover headache pounding in his head. Gah, he really needed to stop doing these crazy plans with Al when they drank.
He glanced back and forth in the hallway. “Do you know the way to the tower?” he asked, because obviously when he bolted into this locked up nightmare, he hadn’t been paying attention to the layout. He had been too focus on not getting shot.

The German people are a strong people. Practical and efficient. Tentatively proud of themselves - they know that they're good at many things but they no longer have that arrogance that they were once infamous for. Not overtly, anyway, they're too keenly aware of the bad marks on their record, and especially wary of anyone thinking that they think that they are better than anyone. But Ludwig can tell that his people are doing quite well in his absence, as he himself is doing quite well. Still, Belarus really did a number on him and how many times has he been killed since all of this began? And it sounds like Prussia has only been managing so well in his absence, though he trusts that his Boss and his other people are what's holding it all together so well still.
Still, he's noticed some side effects of being imprisoned. Much of it psychological - restlessness, uncertainty, weariness - how much is it his own reaction and how much of it is coming from his people? Or are they one and the same? Either way, suddenly having something to actually do feels incredibly good, even if the weariness of his mind also extends to his body somewhat. But what can he do with that besides forge ahead? The cure for everything that ails him lies outside of here, not in. Besides, even with no plan in addition to all his other failings, simply having Denmark here to help him greatly increases the odds of a successful escape.
"Your plan included informing the entire facility that ve are escaping," he can't help but point out, simply because he finds any attempt to defend this so-called plan to be ludicrous. But this is why he always finds himself in charge of these sorts of things. The moment that Denmark indicates his agreement to the plan, he starts forward - moving quickly but cautiously. His caution is clearly because he'd very much like to avoid getting any injuries - he's suffering still from blood loss as it is - but he looks for all the world like he knows what he's doing.
Though his cousin's question dispels that illusion somewhat, however, as his answer is, "No, but if the designer of this place is not an idiot, there vill be one this vay. And if not, then ve may not need to bother vith a tover." It's more of an educated guess, based upon the layout he can see. Buildings are just like giant machines, after all - its just that instead being powered by a fuel of some sort passing through them, buildings are powered by people. And form always follows function, especially when the function is something as important as keeping prisoners inside a prison.

Mathias felt a bit peeved. He had forgotten the fact that Ludwig is a total hard ass and stick in the mud. No wondered Gilbert acted like a wild child rebelling against his parents. If Mathias had to put up with such a stiff no personality younger brother, he would act out too! Wait….
No, his brother and his problems were completely different. Berwald, literally, had been born a living breathing rock, and Mathias had been a great completely normal older brother trying to make his younger brother smile. Different. Totally different. Gilbert and him got along, but Mathias was definitely ten times more awesome than the Prussian man.
Gilbert better shower him with gifts when he returned home with his brother. Actually, for a man trapped in a Russian prison, likely tortured, Ludwig looked fairly good. He carried himself well. The only oddity he could see was the man appeared a bit paler than his normal skin tone. He almost wanted to ask him if he was alright, but recognized the stupidity of the question. He heard the horror stories of being in a Russian prison, he doubted Ludwig wanted to relive them. It also helped that Mathias became entirely distracted by his next remark. “Don’t act like you could have done it better! Try hopping over enemy lines smashed and breaking into a high security prison without making noise! It’s impossible,” he bit back as he followed him quickly. His gun in his hand was ready to take action at any sign of trouble.
He nodded and his explanation. It made sense, and if Mathias wasn’t so damn tired from the all nighter, alcohol, and the lowering of his adrenaline, he might have thought of it himself. As they moved through the halls, they passed over dead or unconscious bodies. Steps could be heard down the hall, echoing as the heavy boots ran through the halls shouting the terrible harsh Russian language. He glanced back, “We might want to pick up our pace. How good are you in track?” He would have smirked, if it hadn’t been an honest question. If they didn’t get out of here soon, it was a good chance they might get trapped in one of the hallways.

As they move forward Germany is paying far more attention to his surroundings than he is to their conversation, not just keeping his eyes peeled for the barest glimpse of a guard but also to what his ears and logic tell him. Any bit of information that might tell him where that danger is located besides simply running into them is a good thing. Still, his distraction with the task isn't so great that he can't listen and respond to Denmark. Which is fortunate, because Denmark is quite annoying when he's being ignored (even when he deserves it). "Actually I think I might have done that once," he comments, "But it's hard to remember - I vas smashed."
Ready for action, so far their luck seems to be holding as the only people they've run into are those that nobody need worry about - Denmark's handiwork, he's assuming. But he can hear the sound of the guards trying to chase them down, and unfortunately the hard, flat walls of the prison echo easily and it's difficult to tell just where and how far away they are. But is the sound getting closer or is that just his imagination? "I'm not at my best right nov," he admits, knowing that the anemia will make him feel winded much faster than he's used to. "But I'm sure I can keep up vith you," he adds, making it sound like that's not a difficult thing to do at all.
Which he's not saying to be a jerk (well, not only to be a jerk - Denmark is fun to tease so how can he resist?) but to encourage them both to great effort. They both ought to be able to outrun humans if they try hard enough, though Germany does worry that he might not be quite up to it. But what's the worst that can happen? Getting killed again? More torture? Really, he's more worried about Denmark getting caught - most nations don't handle torture like he does, and even if Denmark doesn't crack he'd rather not give Ivan the opportunity to try. If this fails, he's hopes that it's because he gets caught while Denmark gets away - he can face those consequences if he has to.
Still, with the thought of putting this all behind him to spur him on, he picks up the pace - actually attempting to see how far he can get ahead of Denmark before the other nation realizes what he's doing.

If they weren’t in the middle of a jail break, he might have actually laughed at the German’s calm and causal statement. He knew Ludwig had a fetish with beer, fetish was putting it lightly, but he rarely saw the man drunk. Rather, Gilbert would tell him the elaborate embarrassing and sometimes horrifying tales the next day, and Gilbert was hardly the reliable narrator. Hmm, Mathias should try picking up a drink with Ludwig once they made it back to Europe. “Here I thought you were a complete stiff,” he noted to his back with a tired smirk. Gah, he hated hangovers. He needed to be home wrapped in a warm blanket watching trashy television right now with all the shades drawn. He should not be in a freezing Moscow prison trying to bust out Germany.
He truly was such a nice guy. The German Chancellor should give him an award or something, and some cute German women could give him a kiss as thanks.
The happy thought only lasted a moment longer before the German shot it down. “Hey! I can quite fast, super fast actually,” he remarked back, never one to allow his ego to be shot by anyone. If he knew what Germany had been thinking, he would have been even more pissed. He likely would have stopped in his track and allowed the Russians to capture him merely to prove the fact that he too could handle any torture sitiation thrown at him. Thankfully, Ludwig had kept the thoughts to himself, so Mathias continued on life still blissfully thinking he was an awesome savior.
He increased his steps to match Ludwig’s and pushed it even forward to the point he was running. “Come on dude, I’m like ten times your senior!” he laughed as he broke out into a full sprint, to be honest, having no idea where the hell he was going. He ran through the halls similar to a carefree child until he made a wrong turn.
“Oh…eh,” he gave a half smile as he saw fifteen Russian men with guns all looking at him in stunned expression, “I was looking for the bathroom, not here, obviously!” He quickly backtracked behind the wall before the men could fire.

The thing about Germany is that, though he does indeed drink a lot - and is infamous for that - he doesn't often drink to excess. Instead it's usually more spread out over time, just enough to get a pleasant buzz. But that doesn't mean that he doesn't ever drink more than that at once. Much, much more, on occasion, actually. Usually at the end of a really horrible day while surrounded by friends. But even so he's not one with a reputation for drunken antics - mostly because if you're drinking with him you've probably had just as many as he did and have just as much ability to remember what happened, if not less. "Nobody's perfect," he remarks, as if being a complete stiff is something to be regarded as perfection.
The trick to manipulation is to know the person you're manipulating. And Germany knows better than to tell Denmark that he has any concerns at all about the other nation getting captured - that would offend him. No, with Denmark the best thing to do is to convince him that whatever you want him to do will prove his superiority - that's what works. And right now, Denmark actually is superior... in his ability to physically exert himself, anyway. And Germany, not immune to wanting to prove himself either, doesn't like that even though he can reassure himself that everything would be different if he was perfectly healthy. So he lets Denmark's taunting spur him into greater effort - all the better to help him escape.
Well, unless Denmark gets too far ahead and takes a wrong turn. But before he notices that his cousin is headed in what he suspects is not a good direction, the other nation has discovered this for himself. Germany, of course, never would have gone that way, so when he sees Denmark backtracking with that look on his face, he's quick to be able to say, "This vay!" Turning down an alternate hallway, he's panting very heavily but he's trying really hard not to slow down. "Ve should be getting close to the outside," he comments. Or at least he really hopes so, since he can hear the men that Denmark ran into picking up the chase. At least they're still a bit ahead of them because it took them a moment to get over their surprise. Gah, this is insane!
Suddenly, he notices something. The short hallway they're currently in doesn't have any cells - it looks like a maintenance corridor. "Can you read Russian? If not, see if there's any doors that try to varn you not to go inside - that can only help us," he says. Because whatever it is, it's good for them. Whether it's something they can turn into a weapon or if they simply break something important, it's all in their favor. He can read Russian himself but... well, not very fast. The universal symbols like skulls and lightning bolts and the like, on the other hand, don't require any translation.

do not forget me
About thirty years ago, Israel's boss was assasinated. By who, well, no one knows, but Israel immediately blamed Iran. Of course, that alone wouldn't have started World War III, even though Israel and Iran's various allies declared war in quick succession.
Nah, the nuclear bomb in the middle of Jerusalem probably did it.
Now? Now the rest is history. The world's been at war for thirty years, thirty years of bloodshed and pain. No one else has reached for the nuclear option quite yet, but no one's happy. So if we all die- well, do not forget me, okay?
