Hi yall!
I wanted to get your opinion on something I've been thinking about. Nations obviously have Bosses whether they are Presidents or Dictators. Currently, we NPC them, but I was wondering if anyone thinks it might be a cool idea to have players take on Bosses. Part of me is like it would be fun to rp with my nation's boss, another part of me thinks that a player who takes on a Boss might be limited on who they can thread with. I'd love to get others opinions on it!

I think that it's a cool idea! But I worry that if we start filling out our character roster with bosses, we'll end up with fewer nations. And I'd rather have either newbies or current players who have time for more characters choosing to play all the nations we all really wish would get players instead of bosses.

...that is a very cool idea, I do think that much, at least. I like the idea of RPing with the bosses? However- and here's the rub, you're right. They might not get to RP with many other people, mainly other people's bosses, honestly. There's also the issue of the fact that, in some cases, we'd be RPing real people, which would get awkward, I guess? (For example, I've been avoiding RPibg James Bates as much as I can because in a Principality I can't come up with a random NPC, I actually have to go to the next in line.) Then there's Natalya, currently essentially a puppet state with a very unstable government, and I'm not sure how I'd deal with that.
ON THE OTHER HAND, I actually love this idea so much for certain characters. Like, Peter, my dear little Hufflepuff, he's all about community and family and he built the Bates family into his own for a bit there and I just imagine this easy dynamic between him and his boss but also the painful knowledge that they'll grow old? Like, he dealt very badly with when Roy Bates died of dementia and old age, and he obviously had a slightly unhealthy reaction to Michael Bates's death, so he's rather protective of "his Jamsie". And then there's Natalya, who would act completely indifferent towards her bosses but actually also gets attached because she knows life is nasty, brutish and short so why not take a moment to let her boss into her Slytherin inner circle (I've been on a Harry Potter kick found the best sorting method I'll probably be sorting everyone sometime soon, can't you tell)? In canon, Natalya doesn't mind ‎Alexander Lukashenko. In fact, she sort of likes him, because life is short so if he's there, she might as well appreciate it?
Wow. I just wound up rambling about my characters' relationships with their bosses SO, the short version is this: I love this idea but I'm not sure how to make it work and Ava has a point, I would like to see more Nations as well, also I have other things. So, um, I guess I'm a little torn? I'll leave it to some other people, then... If we do this, I think there would have to be some new logistics to work out that I'll try to come up with later, probably, for now I'll just stop talking excessively.

I'm going to be the dissenter I guess? XD. I actually don't like the idea of other people playing the bosses, for one because yes, boss interaction would be limited and as a result the bosses might also limit who the nations could interact with. But also because I'd much rather have nations than bosses. I prefer to NPC mine anyway for all my characters.
Also with it being 30 years in the future, I actually don't see the bosses of some countries being the same. America's wouldn't be, for sure. So while there is creativity to be had in letting people play the bosses, I'd much rather play nations and NPC their bosses.
I like the site how it is and I wouldn't want to change the logistics around.

I would like to add, if I'm allowed to add something else, that I see Jere's point very clearly. It's why I'm so torn, because a part of me would much rather leave the bosses as NPCs, and the other part of me thrives off of my characters interacting with other RPers and are all about relationships. If we were to RP bosses, I think we'd need to come up with some extra system in place because they'd still basically be minor characters and, as an RPer who plays a micronation, I've been put into the minor character bind before and it's not but so fun, especially if that's your only character. So yeah.

I love all the thoughts on this! I find myself agreeing with a lot of the points. I do really like the idea of Bosses because you can have inner conflict between a nation and their boss, and you can also see the frustration between two nation's Bosses. I think it holds a lot of potential angst and plots but......
I think Ava made a good point. If new Members come, I'd rather them to take up a nation at this early stage of the site. There also would be a lot of logistical issues like SO mentioned. I think for now, I'll table this idea for the future.
Unless someone avidly disagrees, Bosses will stay NPC. ^.^
I definitely want to return to the topic in 6 months or so, but for now, status quo stays the same.
THANK YOU ALL! I do really appreciate the input!
