Some people are morning people, but Vicente is definitely not one of them. He's more the type that stays up until he absolutely can't stand to be awake any longer, and then falls so soundly asleep that his alarm clock is unable to wake him. Which means that someone usually convinces one of the smaller, too-adorable-to-be-mad-at states to wake him up, or he sleeps right through all his important morning meetings. Though that's usually not that big of a deal, if only because his people have learned not to hold the most important meetings first thing in the morning for that very reason.
This morning he's been left to sleep, so when the clock indicates that he should have been awake a couple of hours ago, he finally becomes aware of the fact that he's awake - and because of his familiarity with how the sunlight comes through the windows in his own bedroom, he can tell without looking at the clock that he should have been up awhile ago. A grumbly moan comes out of his throat at that, and he'd really rather turn over and sleep some more so that he can delay facing the day even further, but both his mind and his body are now too well-rested for that.
And so, reluctantly, he sits up in bed - yawning and rubbing the sleep out of his eyes. Okay, fine, he's up. Better start worrying about what he needs to do today then - especially since he's probably already a little behind on his schedule. What is is schedule for today? It's kind of hard to remember this close to waking - why don't we start with: what day is it?
However, the more awake that he becomes, the more he starts to get the sense that something isn't quite right. That he wasn't woken up sooner is a small part of it - usually someone would wake him up if he was oversleeping. But not always - his household staff aren't the most... well, reliable - so that alone isn't unusual. But it's probably a combination of things that are setting off internal alarm bells, and that's simply the obvious one. So what else already seems wrong about this morning? His forehead wrinkles as he looks around himself, finally taking note of the room.
It's a large room, at least in his mind - as large as many of his people's entire houses... but then, a lot of his people have small houses. It's big enough for his king size bed, and there's a large screen TV in the corner with a comfy couch where he and a few friends (or, more often, he and a few states), can sit around playing video games. And what else does one need in their room? Oh yeah, dresser, stuff like that - he doesn't really pay attention to the lesser pieces of furniture that simply store his things because he hires a made to keep the place clean for him. He just drops everything on the floor and expects it to magically appear where it should be within a day or so - which means that his room is surprisingly spotless for a young man of his personality.

If there was ever a country that enjoyed the crisp air of dawn, the sun rising in the East, it was North Korea. He either woke up in the morning or never slept at all. The country could go days without sleep if he had and sometimes he just did so because he wanted to see how long he could function until he passed out—most of which happened when his “boss” was trying to tell him something important. Well, important to him anyway. If it was really all that important he’d just get a replay when he woke up—a usually shorter one because his boss did not like boring the nation. Yong-Sun never told him it was simply exhaustion and not boredom. Why would he? It was so fun to watch his boss tremble after all.
Yong-Sun, however, saw that while he liked mornings the nation who was still sleeping in the bed he was watching disagreed. That did not bother him. North Korea could be patient and if he’d endured the long flight here then so he could endure the hours waiting for Venezuela to awake. It wasn’t like getting into his house was hard after all.
Several kind people had pointed out where he could find him, though of course they hadn’t know Yong-Sun intended to travel there immediately. Then he’d walked right into the front door. He could have been stealthier, but the entrance was unlocked and well, he loved danger. Danger, however, was not on the agenda when he’d walked in and found the adorable little state standing guard; he was supposed to be standing guard, Yong-Sun supposed, but the child was slumped against a wall asleep. North Korea clucked his tongue and gathered the little state into his arms. He shifted, but with a little rocking and humming from the Asian nation he was fast asleep which left North Korea to explore. And he did. He walked into every room of the house, finding Vicente’s long before it was necessary to. He’d only wanted to find where to place the young state he’d found.
How could someone put such a young state on watch? Of course they were going to fall asleep. Children were hyperactive in spurts, but the moment their energy was out they too were out. He tucked the state in bed once he’d found where he was missing from and then crept out. He chuckled to himself; this was just so easy. None of the other states had awoken in all his exploring.
And that’s what landed North Korea, sitting in a chair, facing the bed Vicente occupied. He watched him stir. He was quite the spoiled nation, wasn’t he? Grumbling about waking up and then taking his time doing so. He covered his mouth and smirked, though no chuckle came out. It was hard not laughing though.
It became all the more of a challenge when it was obvious Vicente noted something was strange. He had good instincts, North Korea could give him that, but could he figure out. He politely stayed silent as the nation searched his room, but the suspense was killing him.
North Korea, a patient nation, but now that Venezuela was awake there was no need for it.
“Good morning,” he greeted cheerfully. “I’m happy to see you’re finally awake.”

Contrary to what many might believe, Vicente is not stupid enough to leave one of the smaller states on guard duty. No, he's merely stupid enough to leave one of the states that are lazy enough to try to pass the duty on to one of the smaller states on guard duty. ...Which is pretty bad in and of itself, actually, but it's not like he has very many reliable options and the few that he does have would get upset if he made them do guard duty too often. He really should invest in some infrastructure - it would help boost the economy, make his people more productive, and make his states more productive. ...But then he'd end up being more productive himself, and who needs that?
But as the hours had ticked past, his states (or at least some of them) had awoken before he did and they were now milling around in the house. But they are doing so quietly, and none of them dares to go into Vicente's room right now - a quick peek through the door by one of them caused an alarmed report of who had come during the night and (once that report was confirmed by another peek from a more reliable witness) they had come to the only reasonable conclusion: Let Vicente deal with this. After all, that's obviously who the infamous North Korea is here to see, since he's sitting right there... watching Vicente sleep... Yep, better to just carry on with the household business and leave that situation completely alone.
And that's a part of the oddness for Vicente - normally he would have had at least one of the early bird rugrats pestering him by now. Who he sees in the room instead causes him to give a surprised double take. First, that there's anyone just sitting there watching him at all, and second... North Korea? That's more than a little bit random... He recognizes the man almost instantly, but he hardly knows him as anything more than Yao's crazy brother. Once the sheer surprise has had a moment to fade (leaving him very, very awake), he frowns and asks, "Vale... what are you doing here? I was not told that you were coming to visit, and what are you doing in my room? Who let you in here without waking me up?" If he weren't still so disturbed by the situation he'd be angry about it, but for the moment he'd far too busy wondering how this situation happened to start to try to decide what to actually do about it.
And it certainly doesn't help that he's only pretending to be completely unbothered by the question of exactly how long the other nation has been here, watching him sleep... Oh, and his current state of dress as well - since he's sitting up in bed, all that can be determined at the moment is that he sleeps without any kind of a shirt on. And even though he's quite muscular for his age, that's not a state of being that he'd like to be in while talking to an important country that he doesn't know very well. But if he pretends that it's a totally normal thing for him, the other nation won't pay any attention to it, right? Some men go around shirtless all the time, after all.

Did Yong-Sun make assumptions based on who he’d found on guard? Yes, he did, but like his brothers and sisters he kept such a thing to himself for the time being. He would pass no judgement on the nation, though despite his own reputation even North Korea had a better infrastructure than that. It was a conundrum that the Asian pondered while the South American country slept on. Perhaps he should bring up to Russia and China that Venezuela could do with some teaching on how to invest his money. A glance around his room answered where it’d been going for a while. Yet the nation has just reached legal maturity. There was still time to learn even he had been so zealous when he’d just reached adulthood—whatever that was for a nation. It was time for Vincente to learn responsibility and it didn’t matter whether you wanted to be productive or awake, you had to be. The world would pass him by or the war would catch him unawares. Just like North Korea was doing.
The arrival and encroachment of North Korea had not been meant to be a lesson in vigilance—he’d expected to be caught actually. Sun was observing, however, that he’d not his own homework and that irked him just a bit. Not at Venezuela, though. No, of course not at the Spanish country. Yet here was afforded such an opportunity to teach him that you had to make sacrifices. Maybe the more trusted would dislike being on guard so often, but their dissatisfaction would lead them to expect more out of their fellow states and because of that unrest would arise, but it would be settled quickly. You either got onto the wagon or you were thrown off.
So he hoped Vincente would take this lesson well, though he hardly expected gratitude. As for the nosy states, North Korea pretended not to notice them. Nothing better than to also teach them to be afraid. If nothing else, he knew Vincente would be very displeased with them.
Speaking of Venezuela, Sun caught his surprise, but far from commenting, he just smiled at him and waved after he’d spoken. The smile didn’t even fade in the face of Vincente’s displeasure. “You weren’t told? I could have sworn I sent word,” it was a bold-face lie, but he spins it with art. “Oh well, it’s not like I’m just here on a whim, at least it’s not a whim to me. I’ve been wanting to meet you. Which of course now leads to your second question. I let myself in your home, the state you left to watch—such a little thing—he was asleep so I tucked him in. Then I came here to await you waking. It would have been rude to wake you.”
North Korea wasn’t disturbed in the least. He just leaned forward slightly and tilted his head. “I can make you breakfast or ask for one your already awake states to make it. I assume you’d like to get dressed,” he nodded and stood. “I do apologize I caught you so off guard, but I promise I don’t mind. So no worries, I’m not a country quick to judgment. Never can judge just from appearances after all.”

Is Vicente learning anything from this? Well, that's yet to be determined. Right now he wants to hunt down whoever it was that was supposed to tell him that North Korea was coming and didn't, and also the state he'd left on watch. Then... he's not sure what he'd do to them. Yelling would be involved, and probably some form of punishment - he'd probably decide what the specific punishment would be right in the middle of the yelling.
But it's probably not a good idea to run off and go do that with North Korea here, so he'll probably refrain until the other nation leaves. Instead, he attempts to work out what to do with North Korea now that he's here. He fancies himself to be a good host - though in reality his concept of hospitality could use some work - but here he is, totally unprepared. In fact, he totally can't figure out what to say until North Korea mentions breakfast. "Oh! No, I wouldn't dream of making you make breakfast - I can ask Jacqueline to make us both something, she's good at it," he hastens to say, "But yes, I'd like to get dressed - if you don't mind? It will not take me long."
He knows his states well enough to guess that many of them must be awake and are probably keeping their distance from their visitor. And, since he's sure that at least two of them are to blame for the fact that North Korea caught him by surprise the idea of asking the other nation to go elsewhere while he dresses is actually kind of appealing. He hopes that some of his states run into him and get scared witless - this would be justice to him.

If the chair he was sitting in was higher or he was smaller, North Korea would have been kicking his feet as he observed all the emotions that flicker over his face and in his eyes. It’s easy to see that he believed his small little falsity. In truth, North Korea had wanted to send word, but he hadn’t. He actually gotten so caught up in the idea of coming he’d completely forgotten. Of course this made him feel rude, but he would be on his best behavior while he was here. No threats to Vincente’s people, he wouldn’t even frown. He’d try not to frown. After all Venezuela was on the Joint Pact. They were allies! And North Korea so wanted new friends! He couldn’t scare them away.
No, no, he couldn’t do that.
So he just smiled as genuinely as he could and let himself feel guilty that he’d caught the nation so off guard. He’d also be nice and try and get the other states of Venezuela off the hook. He probably should. He definitely should. They would have been so much more prepared if he’d actually told them he was coming, he was sure.
“Silly me,” North Korea waved, “of course. I am so used to being the host I do have a tendency to just invite myself in and take care of people even if I’m the visitor. Do forgive me.” He stood up and gave a little bow to Vincente. “I’ll just wait in the kitchen.” Nope, he wasn’t going to tell him how he knew where it was. Maybe he would. Vincente would have to ask, though. He couldn’t help being curious, though. He always was when he was somewhere new.

Eager for Yong-Sun to leave so that he can make himself more presentable, Vicente completely misses the implication that the location of his kitchen is already know. If anything he'd interpret that as a sign that the other nation would wander around until he found it or ask one of the states for directions - both ideas quite appealing since he's feeling so upset with them and that they're afraid of this guest. "I'll join you shortly," he says with a nod, though he doesn't make a move - he's not getting up until Yong-Sun is out the door.
Though the moment that the states listening in hear that North Korea is going toward the kitchen, there's a muffled scramble outside of the door as they realize that means that he's about to come their way. Exactly how many of them make it away cleanly is anyone's guess, but when Yong-Sun makes it to the door he'd see that there are five left - a mixture of those not scared enough to run and those too scared to run. Four boys, one girl, none of them appearing to be older than 4, in human terms. In fact, one of them is about as tiny as states get - perhaps he's only some sort of territory. In any event, the five of them look at him wide-eyed as he enters the hallway, hastily removing themselves from the center of it and against the wall in case the large nation wants to get past and hopefully ignore all of them.
One of the boys, the second youngest, is the very one who fell asleep at guard duty last night. But he has no memory of being tucked in by the nation, so he looks as nervous as the rest of them. Well, as nervous as the rest besides the youngest - the small boy looks up at the nation with wide-eyed curiosity. In fact, it hadn't been his idea to get out of the way - the little girl, who is not that much bigger than him, had pulled him behind her. And he's the only one who talks, simply saying, "Hola!"

Children!
North Korea adored children. Of course far too often they too became victims of his necessary punishments because their father or mother just couldn’t see how good their lives were. Yong-Sun always had it rough when children had to befall misfortune. It was one of the consequences he least enjoyed. Little territories and nations were no different. They were pure and untainted. They made him fond and nostalgic. They allowed him to remember when he hadn’t been the nation of North Korea. Back then he’d had Appa, Soo, and all the other Asian nations to keep him company. He’d been happy then. He smiled just as easily as any of them and there was no darkness on his brow or madness in his mind.
That had all changed so quickly, like a swarm of locus had besieged crops. Those were the days when the seeds of madness had been sown and blossomed. Still, he could never become angry at children.
So when Vicente’s door was closed and he turned to see the five little child-states staring at him his face lit into a grin. He stared down at them as they peered up at him fearfully. That hurt a little, but he was much bigger than them and like everyone else they must have heard such terrible things about him! He did recognize the little nation he’d found snoozing, but he said nothing to him—no reason to get him into trouble. He’d probably not tell him. No, he’d not tell at all. He’d let them all be, he decided. They looked frightened enough, then one of them spoke.
Yong-Sun pulled his foot back from where he was about to walk away from the door and then squatted down. “Hola,” he smiled, “Cómo estás? Estoy Yong-Sun. Y tú?” He asked politely. They had every right to be afraid, he was a stranger after all. But there really was nothing to fear from him.

Have they heard terrible things about him? Oh goodness, yes! Much like human children might torment each other with tales of that strange man down the street whose only real fault is that he lives alone and is seldom seen outside the house, North Korea is one of many excellent sources of wild stories among the child-states. The older ones know that the tales aren't true - or, at least, that they're unlikely to be true - but the younger ones definitely don't know any such thing. That includes the little one who greeted North Korea anyway, but he's so little that it's difficult for him to wrap his mind around the idea that there's a difference between, say, a teddy bear and a real bear. And so it is with his concept of the extremely terrifying North Korea. He beams in surprise and delight at being addressed at all - he's quite used to being ignored around here - let alone politely and in his own language. " Mi nombre es Juan!" he announces proudly, before turning to the others and pointing to each in turn, starting with the young girl who was tugging on him, " Y estos son Lizeta, Gran Hugo, Álex y Jesús." An action that terrifies the other four - oh no, now North Korea knows their names! But that mostly shows as an extra widening of their respective eyes. Oblivious to their reaction, Juan turns back to Yong-Sun and announces, " Y tengo hambre!" Tilting his head curiously at the large nation, he asks, " ¿Vas a desayunar con nosotros?" A question that causes some uncomfortable shifting in the others. This is the part where North Korea eats them or something, right? Translations: Mi nombre es Juan = My name is Juan Y estos son Lizeta, Gran Hugo, Álex y Jesús = And these are Lizeta, Big Hugo, Álex, and Jesús. Y tengo hambre! = And I'm hungry! ¿Vas a desayunar con nosotros? = Are you going to eat breakfast with us?

do not forget me
About thirty years ago, Israel's boss was assasinated. By who, well, no one knows, but Israel immediately blamed Iran. Of course, that alone wouldn't have started World War III, even though Israel and Iran's various allies declared war in quick succession.
Nah, the nuclear bomb in the middle of Jerusalem probably did it.
Now? Now the rest is history. The world's been at war for thirty years, thirty years of bloodshed and pain. No one else has reached for the nuclear option quite yet, but no one's happy. So if we all die- well, do not forget me, okay?
