Finland would never admit in public just how big an effect Sweden had on him. Every time he called him his wife, his heart would putter in his chest and he’d feel almost suffocated by the warmth that settled there. So maybe he did actually like being called his wife—no one had to know! And every time Su-san worried about him, that ball of heat would choke him or threaten to. To know that all Sweden cared about was that he was safe, that would have turned him into mush inside. He hoped Berwald knew that he was always going to be at his side. He’d support him no matter what. He would help his people, he would cheer him up, and he’d cuddle with him at night honestly not bothered by the way he spoke. Su-san wasn’t really that scary anymore to him—he giggled that he was to everyone else.
Thank goodness Berwald had Tino too! The moment he’d seen the catch of fish, fish, and even more fish, he’d sent his own envoy to bring other things from his land. His son and husband were not going to subsist off fish alone! Finland loved it just as much as anyone else, being his country too was on the coast, but no! Absolutely not! So he made a racket as he fixed something to supplement this fish diet, all the while yelling at the other cooks. So maybe he went overboard, but he was tired of Sweden eating fish and just fish! Eventually, though, he settled and with Hana following him about, he prepared some cookies; lovely pine-tree cookies which he decorated with green sprinkles and red candies for decorations. He loved Christmas and seeing the cheerful sweets made him more joyful too. He was beginning to realize, he’d stayed in far too long. He and Hana would need to take a little soon and maybe Berwald would join them; Tino knew he’d definitely like that, walking with Sweden in the snow and being fussed over. Sweden’d probably put his scarf around his neck and hold his hand without a word.
He was plating the cookies to take to Su-san because he worked so hard, but just as he finished Hana yipped, ears pricking up. The kitchen had gotten quiet and it seemed that Hana heard something. She took off and with a chuckle, Finland hurry and followed as well, taking the cookies with him.
Down the stairs and onto the floor the little dog scuttled and barked. Suddenly she came around corner and jumped up on her legs and yipped at the man in the green uniform. "Hana!" Finland called as he too turned the corner. Immediately he stopped.
“Ludwig,” Finland called with a grin, seeing the man as well and then noticed that Sweden was there as well. He said nothing, but he could feel the tension in the air. He placed the cookies on the cash register and then moved to snatch Hana.
He lifted back up from his lean, the dog in his arms and panting. “She likes visitors, though you’re a surprise, Germany! Are you hungry? Tired? I made cookies and I can get some milk or alcohol for you.” He turned to Berwald. “Are you seriously talking to your cousin, the both of you standing up? Come on! We can sit at one of Su-san’s lovely tables! The chairs are study too!”
He was curious, but he decided to be the cheerful one of the bunch. These two could be so serious sometimes. It wasn’t as if he couldn’t guess what had brought Germany here. Out of his periphery he watched Berwald and worried about him.
